Oersted Medal

About this program

The American Association of Physics Teachers (AAPT) awards the Oersted Medal to individuals who have had an outstanding, widespread, and lasting impact on the teaching of physics; recipients deliver an address at an AAPT Winter Meeting and receive a monetary prize, the Oersted Medal, an award certificate, and travel expenses. The medal, established in 1936, honors significant contributions to physics education and publicizes the recipient’s work through the conferment address. Self-nomination is not appropriate, nominations are submitted via the AAPT nomination form, and preference in selection is given to AAPT members.
