Operational Meteorology and Climatology Award

About this program

The Meteorological Society of New Zealand offers the biennial Operational Meteorology and Climatology Award to recognise an individual or team that has made a significant contribution or major advance in operational meteorology or operational climatology in New Zealand, promoting interest and exchange of information about the atmosphere, weather and climate in the region. Eligible work includes real-time weather analysis, radar/satellite meteorology, instrumentation, numerical weather prediction, machine learning, training and communication, and applied climatology for monitoring, data collection and decision support; the recipient receives a certificate presented at the Society’s annual conference (no monetary prize specified). Nominees must be financial members of the Society and normally resident in New Zealand; self-nominations are not accepted and submissions must include supporting evidence and the names and contact details of two independent referees. Nominations are judged by the Society’s awards sub-committee, should be sent to awards@metsoc.org.nz and must be submitted by 30 September of the award year, with the committee reserving the right not to make an award if no suitable candidate is identified.
