Outstanding Teaching and Mentoring (Division 9)

About this program

The Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues (SPSSI) Division 9 awards one or two annual Outstanding Teaching and Mentoring prizes recognizing excellence in teaching and mentoring related to the psychological study of social issues, typically honoring one early-career scholar (within 10 years of the PhD) and one later-career scholar. Eligible applicants are individual educators or mentors whose work addresses social-issue-related psychology; submitted materials may be posted to SPSSI’s online teaching resource center and applications may be reconsidered for up to two award cycles. Recipients receive $1,000, a plaque, and recognition in The Forward; honorable mentions receive one year of free SPSSI membership, winners may be invited to present at a Teaching and Mentoring Committee–sponsored session, and the application deadline is February 15, 2026.
