The Australasian Bat Society, via Paddy Pallin Foundation-sponsored ABS grants, awards two competitive A$3,000 grants annually to fund projects that advance conservation and/or knowledge of Australasian bats, with a stated preference that at least one award support flying-fox research and that projects address bat habitat needs. Applicants must be ABS members and submit a Word application (objectives, methodology, timeline, budget and demonstrated conservation benefit) in anonymised form for double-blind assessment; applications should be sent to secretary@ausbats.org.au by the advertised closing date. Successful applicants are notified within four weeks, sign an assistance agreement, receive 80% of funds upfront and 20% on submission of an ABS Newsletter article, and must provide a photo, acknowledge ABS support, obtain necessary permits, make results freely available where possible, and offer any collected specimens to an approved public zoological collection.
