About this program

The Paleontological Society, with funding from the Palaeontological Association and the Spanish Paleontological Society, offers the PalSIRP Sepkoski Grants—up to twenty-five individual awards of US $1,000 to support fieldwork and research in any area of paleontology/paleobiology. Eligibility is limited to paleontologists residing in Eastern Europe and former Soviet republics; Central and South America and Caribbean island nations (excluding U.S. possessions and western Europe); Africa; and specified regions of southern Asia (including Taiwan) and island nations of the Indian and Pacific Oceans (excluding Australia and New Zealand); applicants from countries subject to U.S. OFAC sanctions are ineligible. Applications in English must include a cover sheet, research proposal, and a two‑page CV combined into one PDF plus two letters of recommendation submitted by referees; all materials are due by March 1 (awards announced by May 1). Awards are made to individuals (from graduate students to retirees), require a one‑year research report due June 1 following the award, and beginning in 2026 recipients may receive a Sepkoski grant only every other year.
