About this program

The Society for Applied Anthropology (SfAA) administers the Peter Kong‑ming New Student Research Competition to recognize outstanding single‑authored student research in applied social and behavioral sciences, with emphasis on studies related to health care or human services. Applicants must be undergraduate or graduate students enrolled during the calendar year prior to the award (doctorate holders and previous first‑ and second‑place winners are ineligible); manuscripts must report original, unpublished field research, be anonymized, use 12‑point font, be double‑spaced, and be no more than 45 pages (including footnotes, tables, and appendices), submitted as .doc, .docx, or .pdf. Monetary prizes are awarded (First: $3,000 plus trophy; Second: $1,500; Third: $750, each with a $350 travel stipend and two nights’ lodging); the first‑place winner must present at the SfAA Annual Meeting and submit the paper to Human Organization for review, with submissions typically posted by November 30 and notifications by the end of January.
