Pichichero Family Foundation Research Award in Pediatric Infectious Diseases

About this program

The Pichichero Family Foundation, administered through the PIDS Foundation, funds the Pichichero Family Foundation Research Award in Pediatric Infectious Diseases to support translational and clinical research—priority given to vaccine development, pathogenesis, and host–pathogen interaction studies aimed at advancing new vaccines and therapeutics (projects focused principally on surveillance or vaccine attitudes/hesitancy are unlikely to be funded). Awards provide $50,000 per year (inclusive of 8% indirect costs) for up to two years, with second-year funding contingent on satisfactory progress; funds may be used for salary, small equipment, technical support, and research supplies, and recipients must submit progress/final reports and financial documentation and acknowledge the sponsor in publications. Eligible applicants are pediatric infectious diseases physicians and scientists (MD and/or PhD) at any career stage who are members of PIDS (members of sister societies may apply only if also PIDS members); established investigators must show the proposed work represents a new direction with no scientific overlap with current funding. Original applications are due January 15 and July 15 (compiled as a single PDF including title page, abstract, specific aims, research strategy ≤6 pages, references, other support, NIH-format biosketch, and up to 3 manuscripts); repurposed NIH/CDC proposals may be submitted on a rolling basis with reviewer comments and a 1-page response.
