Polly Stewart Student Travel Stipend (AFS Women's Section)

About this program

The AFS Women’s Section awards the Polly Stewart Student Travel Stipend—First Place $1,000, Second Place $600—to help students or recent graduates cover travel, registration, lodging, and per diem to attend and present at the American Folklore Society annual meeting. Applicants must be enrolled students (or recent graduates who will have completed their degree before the meeting), be dues‑paying members of the AFS Women’s Section at the time of application and for one year after, demonstrate a research commitment to women’s folklore/gender/feminist approaches, have an accepted meeting presentation, and plan to attend at least two full days including the Women’s Section business meeting. Submit the AFS Prize Application Form plus a single Word or PDF containing contact details, a 100‑word abstract, a 250‑word research/goals statement, a budget and other funding sources, and proof of meeting acceptance by June 15; recipients must file a brief report within 60 days and serve on the following year’s selection committee.
