About this program
The Society for Ethnomusicology offers the annual Portia K. Maultsby Prize, including a $500 award, to recognize the most distinguished English-language monograph on African American music and/or Black music of the diaspora. Eligible books must be monographs published within the previous two years, based on the copyright year; second editions, edited collections, and textbooks are not eligible. Authors, presses, or other nominators may submit one title per cycle by sending four hard copies to the SEM Business Office by April 1.
