Presidents’ Book Prize

The Society for Historians of the Gilded Age and Progressive Era (SHGAPE) awards its Presidents’ Book Prize in even-numbered years for the best scholarly book on any aspect of U.S. history from 1865 through the 1920s; the winner receives an honorarium and certificate and is honored at SHGAPE’s annual luncheon. For the 2028 prize, eligible books must be published in English in 2026 or 2027, represent the author’s second or subsequent scholarly book, and not be edited volumes or collections; English translations may qualify. Authors or publishers must send copies to all three prize committee members by October 31, 2027, with final proofs permitted for books published after that date but before December 31, 2027.
