Protecting Native Places Grant Program

About this program

The National Association of Tribal Historic Preservation Officers (NATHPO), with support from the Mellon Foundation, administers the Protecting Native Places Grant Program to fund projects that document, plan for, and steward culturally important Native sites, with recent awards of up to $40,000. The program aims to empower Tribal preservation leaders to sustain Native identity, resilience, and cultural endurance through targeted preservation activities. Eligible applicants are Tribal Historic Preservation Officers (THPOs) and tribal cultural preservation programs, and applicants are encouraged to be NATHPO members; application slots are limited each year. To apply, complete the program form and submit it by email to PNPGrants@nathpo.org, copying NATHPO leadership as instructed.
