Rainforest Reporting Grant

About this program

The Pulitzer Center’s Rainforest Reporting Grant provides short-term, project-based support for staff and freelance journalists reporting on tropical rainforest issues in the Amazon, Central Africa, and Southeast Asia. It prioritizes ambitious, underreported, and systemic stories involving deforestation, Indigenous rights, extractive industries, biodiversity, governance, and conservation, including innovative, data-driven, or collaborative projects. Applicants must submit a project description of up to 250 words, a preliminary budget, and a compelling distribution plan; proposals are accepted on a rolling basis in English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, or Indonesian. The grant does not fund books, feature-length films, staff salaries, equipment purchases, routine breaking news, advocacy campaigns, or data projects intended solely for academic research.
