RAND CAST Fellowship (Center on AI, Security, and Technology Fellowship)

About this program

RAND's Center on AI, Security, and Technology (RAND CAST) funds fellowships to train policy analysts and implementors working on AI security, technology policy and governance, and biosecurity; fellows conduct mentored research and may devote up to one day per week to client-sponsored projects. Fellowships typically start at six months (renewable up to three years), may be full- or part-time, and are preferably based in Washington, D.C., San Francisco, Pittsburgh, remote in the U.S., or in the U.K.; U.S. full-time stipends range from $40,000–$200,000 plus a monthly insurance payment, with U.K. compensation based on experience. Candidates may be undergraduate through mid-career professionals but may not be current RAND staff and must be eligible to obtain and maintain a government security clearance (U.S. citizens) or meet U.K. residency and right-to-work/clearance requirements; applications are submitted via RAND’s online form and are reviewed quarterly (apply by Feb 1, May 1, Aug 1, or Nov 1), and applicants should avoid applying if they submitted another CAST role within the past six months.
