The Council of State Neurosurgical Societies (CSNS) administers the Randall W. Smith Award for Meritorious Service to recognize individuals who have provided distinguished service to the organization; recipients are selected by the CSNS Awards Committee, approved by the Executive Committee, and honored at a CSNS plenary session. Nominations are determined by the Awards Committee on an as‑needed basis rather than via an open application process, and no monetary prize is specified. Eligible candidates are individuals with documented meritorious service to the CSNS; the award is presented intermittently as deserving nominees are identified.
