Rapid Outcomes from Agricultural Research (ROAR)

About this program

Foundation for Food & Agriculture Research (FFAR) funds the Rapid Outcomes from Agricultural Research (ROAR) program to support rapid, applied research, diagnostics, monitoring and mitigation addressing emerging or unanticipated plant and animal pest and pathogen threats to U.S. food and agricultural systems. Awards of up to $250,000 (one- to two-year projects) are offered year‑round; applicants submit a one‑page concept note via FFAR’s Grants Management portal and invited teams have eight weeks to submit a full proposal. Eligible applicants include public and private higher education institutions, non‑profits and for‑profit organizations, and projects must address recently emerged or rapidly spreading threats (including international outbreaks that pose clear U.S. risk). Equal or greater matching funds from non‑federal sources are required, must be secured at concept submission, and be certifiable within eight weeks; ROAR excludes weather/natural disaster or food safety responses, basic research, general‑use diagnostics, and pesticide application technology development.
