Research Exhibition Grant

About this program

The Design History Society (DHS) offers an annual Research Exhibition Grant to support design history research that leads to the organisation of physical or digital exhibitions, awarding up to £2,000 per year divided among multiple recipients, with individual awards limited to £1,000. Eligible costs include photocopying/scanning, permissions and copyright clearance, research travel and accommodation for archive/library/museum visits, materials, insurance, loan and installation costs; unsuitable costs include equipment purchases, subsistence, higher‑class travel/accommodation, interview transcription and retrospective costs. Applicants must be DHS members (independent or institution‑affiliated researchers are welcome), submit anonymised applications (no CVs), provide written evidence that the exhibition will open within two years, and submit only one application per person per calendar year. Applications are accepted year‑round from 1 January until funds are exhausted (excluding periods around the DHS annual conference), decisions are typically issued within three weeks, and awardees must submit a 500–800 word report with a copyright‑free image and acknowledge DHS funding within six months.
