Research Fund for Graduate Students

About this program

The Economic History Society offers small research grants (normally up to £1,000) to assist postgraduate (Master’s and PhD) students at UK colleges and universities with costs of gathering research data and source materials, including travel and accommodation for research into economic and/or social history; the fund does not cover subsistence, equipment, books, fees/licenses/rights, or conference attendance. Applicants must be members of the Society and submit a supervisor’s statement to the Administrators, include details of attempts to obtain matching support, and — for data-input costs — demonstrate compliance with employment regulations and best practice (preference may be given to employing UK students). Deadlines are 1 May and 1 November each year and applicants are usually informed within 6–8 weeks; enquiries should be directed to the Administrators via the Society’s website.
