Residency Funding for Graduate Students and Postdoctoral Fellows

About this program

The Institute for Humane Studies offers Residency Funding providing up to $10,000 (with larger awards considered for exceptional projects) to support short-term research residencies—typically one week to one month—at universities, academic centers, or research organizations for access to archives, datasets, mentors, or collaborators. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis with applicants typically notified within eight weeks, and awardees must confirm host placement before funds are released. Eligible applicants are full-time PhD students (including ABD/dissertation-stage) and current postdoctoral fellows at accredited institutions worldwide; prior IHS participation is not required. Preference is given to proposals aligned with IHS priorities (political and legal foundations of liberal democracy; economic freedom; institutional design for stable self-government); funds may not be used for institutional overhead or industry work that is not strictly research-oriented.
