Residency Funding

About this program

The Institute for Humane Studies at George Mason University offers Residency Funding to support PhD students (and in some descriptions postdoctoral fellows) who wish to embed at another university, academic center, or organization to accelerate research by accessing datasets, mentors, or collaborators. Awards provide up to $10,000 (larger amounts for exceptional projects) to fund stays typically lasting one week to one month; funds may not be used for institutional overhead/indirect costs and industry work must be strictly research‑oriented. Applicants must be full‑time PhD students who have advanced to candidacy (program materials currently indicate availability to students only); previous applicants and international students are eligible, and proposals must include a project title, summary, budget, and proposed start/end dates (start date at least four weeks after application). Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis with notification within eight weeks.
