Robert C. Cowen Award for Sustained Achievement in Science Journalism

The American Geophysical Union (AGU) awards the biennial Robert C. Cowen Award for Sustained Achievement in Science Journalism to a journalist or team whose reporting has made significant, lasting, and consistent contributions to Earth and space science journalism for the general public; recipients receive an engraved award, recognition in Eos and at AGU’s annual meeting, two Honors Banquet tickets, and reimbursement of travel expenses up to $1,000. Established in 1991 and later named for Robert C. Cowen, the honor recognizes excellence in reporting, writing, editing, producing, and contributions such as leadership and mentorship. Eligible applicants are journalists or teams with a career spanning at least 15 years whose work covers one or more AGU disciplines and is intended for and available to the general public in English (or with an English translation); self-nominations are accepted, nominees need not be AGU members, and all parties must comply with AGU’s conflict of interest and professional conduct policies.
