Robert H. Ferrell Book Prize

About this program

The Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations (SHAFR) awards the annual $1,000 Robert H. Ferrell Book Prize for distinguished scholarship in the broadly defined history of American foreign relations. Eligible works include an author’s book beyond the first monograph, including biographies of statesmen and diplomats, but exclude general surveys, autobiographies, and editions of essays or documents. Authors must be SHAFR members, and books nominated for the 2027 prize must have been published in 2026. Nominations require a formal letter and three physical copies or page proofs, which must arrive by February 1, 2027; authors, publishers, or SHAFR members may submit nominations.
