About this program
Research to Prevent Blindness offers the Physician-Scientist Award to support clinical, translational, and basic vision research by clinician-investigators, providing $300,000 over three years without restricting proposals to a specific scientific focus. One co-funded award with the Mary Tyler Moore Vision Initiative will support innovative diabetic retinal disease research, including work on biomarkers, visual function, neuroprotection, regeneration, and gene or stem-cell therapies.
Candidates must be MDs or MD/PhDs with primary appointments as assistant or associate professors in ophthalmology at U.S. academic medical centers and must devote at least 25% of their time to research and 20% to clinical activity. Applicants must be nominated by the chair of an ophthalmology department currently holding an RPB grant; nominations are due June 15 and applications July 1.
