Rudolph Hering Medal

About this program

The Rudolph Hering Medal, offered by the American Society of Civil Engineers’ Environmental & Water Resources Institute, recognizes the paper judged to make the most valuable contribution to environmental engineering and carries a bronze medal plus an honorarium (amount varies). Eligible papers must be original works authored or co-authored by ASCE members on topics such as water works, sewerage, drainage, refuse collection/disposal, or other branches of environmental engineering and must appear in an ASCE online journal between July and June of the year preceding the award. Nominations require a nominator-signed cover letter, one copy of the paper as it appears online, and a completed list of contributing authors submitted via the ASCE nomination form; the lead author receives the medal and cash prize. A nomination deadline is listed as October 1 (no year specified), and selection is made by a three-member EWRI committee, which may designate a second-order merit eligible for reconsideration the following year.
