Schallek Award — Graduate dissertation research support in late-medieval Britain

The Medieval Academy of America offers the Schallek Award, a $5,000 grant to support doctoral dissertation research on late‑medieval Britain (ca. 1350–1500), covering research expenses such as travel to archives and costs for photographs, photocopies, and microfilm (books and equipment excluded). Applicants must be graduate students conducting doctoral research in relevant disciplines, be members of the Medieval Academy as of 15 January of the application year, and be citizens or permanent residents of the United States or Canada; applications are due by 15 February each year and late or nonconforming submissions will not be considered. Required materials include a PDF project description (rationale, methodology, significance), a chapter outline if applicable, a detailed and justified list of requested research expenses and prior/planned funding, plus a signed PDF letter of recommendation from a graduate program professor (emailed or mailed). Selection is based on originality and likely contribution to medieval studies, clarity and organization of the proposal, the professor’s assessment, and demonstrated financial need.
