School Lunch Bell Award (Mississippi School Nutrition Association)

The Mississippi School Nutrition Association (MSNA) Executive Board annually presents the School Lunch Bell Award to Mississippi schools or school districts that best publicize Child Nutrition Programs, specifically school lunch and breakfast initiatives that improve the image of cafeteria meals and educate the public about how school meals support children’s nutritional well‑being. Awards are given in categories for individual schools (high, middle, elementary) and entire districts, with first, second and third place winners; first-place winners receive $50 plus a plaque or certificate, presented at the annual MSNA conference. Eligible applicants are Mississippi individual schools or districts (district entries must document participation across all schools); entries must be focused on school lunch/breakfast program objectives. Applications require a bound 8×11 scrapbook documenting activities with dates/locations/methods, descriptions of cafeteria staff involvement, and samples of results (photos, newspaper articles, radio/TV spot descriptions, materials used); regional submissions are due to the Regional Director by September 15 and regional winners are submitted to the MSNA Professional Development Co‑Chairman by October 1.
