Searle Scholars Program

About this program

The Searle Scholars Program awards $450,000 per grant payable over three years ($150,000/year) to support the research described in successful applications, with roughly 15 new awards activated each July and continued funding contingent on acceptable progress reports. Grants are made to tax-exempt institutions described in section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and are designated for the institution’s support of the proposed research. Awardees and their institutions must submit annual fiscal reports (requested in July, due in August), final scientific and fiscal reports within 60 days of award termination, and Searle Scholars are expected to attend the Annual Searle Scholars Meeting and provide a scientific abstract and headshot beforehand. Publications arising from supported work must acknowledge the “Searle Scholars Program,” and selection is conducted under a nondiscrimination policy.
