About this program
The Simons Foundation Autism Research Initiative (SFARI) offers Explorer Awards of up to $80,000, including indirect costs, for innovative, high-risk/high-impact exploratory autism research that strengthens hypotheses and supports future large-scale applications. Projects may address autism-related mechanisms or therapeutic approaches across genetic, molecular, circuit, anatomical, cognitive, and behavioral research. Applicants must hold a Ph.D., M.D., or equivalent, occupy a faculty or equivalent position, and have independent laboratory space at an eligible domestic or international nonprofit research institution; there are no citizenship requirements. Applications are submitted online through proposalCENTRAL on a rolling basis, with a three-page narrative limit and required institutional ethical approvals where applicable.
