Glaucoma Research Foundation’s Shaffer Grants provide one-year awards of $55,000 to support high‑impact clinical, epidemiological, and laboratory research aligned with the Foundation’s strategic goals, with priority areas in the physiology of glaucoma and the genetics of glaucoma (Zander Family Research Fund), including gene-therapy approaches. Applicants must be scientists or clinicians with a graduate degree who have not received a Shaffer Grant in the past three years; a Preliminary Proposal submitted between June 1 and July 15 is required for consideration, with shortlisted applicants notified by September and invited to submit a full application. Grants exclude PI/co‑PI salaries, routine lab supplies, indirect costs, and most equipment purchases over $12,000 (waivers considered case-by-case); projects with overt commercial aims and applications from for‑profit entities are ineligible. Applicants must register/login on the Foundation website to apply and agree to acknowledge the Glaucoma Research Foundation in resulting papers and abstracts.
