Short-Term Resident Research Fellowships

About this program

The American Philosophical Society’s Library & Museum offers approximately 25–30 Short-Term Resident Research Fellowships annually to support scholars whose projects require access to its collections, including materials on the American Revolution, history of science, and Indigenous cultures. Awards provide a $3,000 monthly stipend for one to three months of residence in Philadelphia, with fellowships beginning June 1, 2027, through May 31, 2028. Applicants may include Ph.D. holders, advanced Ph.D. candidates, independent scholars, U.S. citizens, and foreign nationals in any relevant field; preference may be given to applicants residing at least 75 miles from Philadelphia. Applications require a cover letter, CV, two-page research proposal identifying relevant APS collections, and two confidential references; the deadline is March 1, 2027.
