About this program
Royal Society Te Apārangi, supported by the Green Foundation for Polynesian Research, offers two awards of NZ$4,000 each to support research on the history, art, culture, and physical and social anthropology of Māori and other Polynesian peoples. The fund particularly encourages projects involving recording, survey, excavation and scientific study of prehistoric and historic sites in New Zealand and the South‑west Pacific, and detailed analysis of cultural, artistic, or physical remains recovered. Eligible applicants are researchers undertaking such studies; the 2025 round is closed and applications for 2026 will open in January 2026. For enquiries, contact awards@royalsociety.org.nz.
