SMSR Research Grants Programme (2025 call)

About this program

Stoke Mandeville Spinal Research is offering the SMSR Research Grants Programme to fund studies that prevent or improve management of medical complications of spinal cord injury and that lead to new treatments, deeper understanding or dissemination of best practice (topics include bladder/bowel management, pressure ulcers, respiratory care, neuropathic pain, upper limb function and psychological health). Grants of up to £150,000 for projects of up to three years are available, with smaller projects, feasibility studies and seed funding also considered. Applicants worldwide may apply provided at least one UK-based clinical or academic centre is involved; priority is given to research addressing treatment/management of non‑progressive SCI and proposals must be realistic in scope, demonstrate short‑to‑medium term clinical impact and measurable quality‑of‑life benefits. Proposals are assessed by an independent Scientific Advisory Board on scientific quality, clinical impact and feasibility, following AMRC peer‑review best practice; see the 2025 call guidance and terms for application details.
