SNAME Graduate Scholarships

About this program

SNAME (Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers) offers multiple named graduate scholarships to support master’s‑level study and research in naval architecture, marine engineering, ocean engineering and related fields, with specialty awards for environmental innovation (Thordon), high‑speed craft hydrodynamics (Donald L. Blount), ship and offshore structures, and ship hydrodynamics. Applicants must be or will be enrolled in a master’s program for the upcoming fall term and hold SNAME membership for at least four months prior to the 1 February application deadline (the Alan C. McClure Scholarship requires two years’ prior membership); individuals may receive a graduate scholarship only once and those who already hold an M.Eng. are generally eligible only for the Maclean or Blount scholarships. Applications are due 1 February with all supporting documents by 15 February; selection is made in April and GRE scores—while optional—can account for up to 15% of the evaluation. Award funds may be used for tuition, textbooks, academic fees, or other academic‑related study and research expenses.
