SPS-AAPT-ALPhA Undergraduate Award for Outstanding Laboratory Development

The American Association of Physics Teachers, Association of Laboratories for the Physical Sciences, and Society of Physics Students offer the SPS-AAPT-ALPhA Undergraduate Award for Outstanding Laboratory Development to recognize undergraduate students or teams that create or substantially improve advanced physics laboratory experiments. Awardees receive presentation opportunities at the summer AAPT meeting, student and faculty travel support, student and departmental honoraria, and a plaque; applications are due November 15 for the fall review cycle. Applicants must be SPS members, current undergraduates or graduates within the past academic year, and affiliated with an SPS chapter in good standing. The proposed experiment must support physics instruction beyond the first year and be suitable for incorporation into the institution’s advanced laboratory curriculum, with adviser support, enrollment verification, recommendations, and a manuscript required.
