SPS Award for Outstanding Undergraduate Research

About this program

Society of Physics Students (American Institute of Physics) offers the SPS Award for Outstanding Undergraduate Research to recognize exceptional undergraduate research in any physics-related field, providing up to $2,000 for travel and registration to one AIP member society meeting within 12 months of the award plus a $500 honorarium to the student and a $500 honorarium to the student's SPS chapter (total up to $3,000). Two or more awards may be made annually, and recipients are expected to present at an AIP member society meeting and submit a research report to the Journal of Undergraduate Reports in Physics and Astronomy (JURPA). Eligible applicants must be undergraduate students who are national SPS members at the application deadline and must apply via the SPS online system with a research abstract, list of references, a description of SPS activity, and two letters of recommendation (one from an SPS advisor and one from another faculty member or research advisor). Awardees must submit a completed W-9 before funds are disbursed.
