SPS Chapter Research Award

About this program

The Society of Physics Students (SPS), administered by the American Institute of Physics, offers the SPS Chapter Research Award to fund calendar-year local SPS chapter physics research projects using alumni-donated funds. Several awards of up to $2,000 each are made annually (disbursed in two installments), with up to $500 available to support conference travel; funds must directly support students and may not be used for institutional overhead. Eligible applicants are SPS chapters in good standing (one proposal per chapter) with a project leader who is an SPS student member and approval from the chapter advisor; applications (proposal and budget templates provided) open Sept 1 and are due Nov 15 each year. Award acceptance requires uploading a group photo, institutional Tax ID, and press contacts, and recipients must submit an interim report by May 31 and a final report by Dec 31 or risk returning funds.
