SSRC-JF Next Gen Japan Visiting Professor Grants

About this program

The Social Science Research Council, with support from the Japan Foundation, offers grants of up to $20,000 to US academic institutions or consortia to host Japan-based faculty for three to six weeks, supporting travel, lodging, per diem, and research expenses. Visiting professors engage with US faculty, students, and communities through lectures, seminars, networking, and research activities while advancing their own Japan-related scholarship. Applicants must be US nonprofit colleges, universities, or consortia with qualifying tax-exempt status, and proposed visitors must be full-time Japan-based faculty with a PhD conducting research on Japan in the social sciences, humanities, or a related field. Applications require a jointly developed engagement plan, institutional confirmation, the visitor’s CV and statement of interest, with priority given to early- to mid-career scholars and hosts in the US South or Midwest.
