STEP Grants: Science and Technology Empowered by the Public

About this program

The Planetary Society’s STEP Grants (Science and Technology Empowered by the Public) is a competitive, open international program that funds credible science and hardware development projects advancing exploration of other worlds, the search for life, and planetary defense. Awards—offered roughly every two years via an RFP—prioritize seed funding, projects that fill underfunded niches, innovative technologies, public engagement, or timely opportunities that cannot readily secure other funding. Eligible applicants include individuals, researchers, universities, commercial entities, and organizations worldwide; proposals must directly align with the Society’s core interests and demonstrate technical credibility, significance, and a clear need for Planetary Society support. Successful awardees receive financial support and promotional backing from The Planetary Society’s membership and network.
