Sudden and Urgent Needs (SUN) Grants

About this program

The Community Foundation of Western North Carolina provides Sudden and Urgent Needs (SUN) Grants of up to $10,000 to support human service nonprofit organizations in specified WNC counties facing unforeseen crises that impair their ability to deliver critical services. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis until funds are exhausted, with funding decisions made within two weeks. Eligible organizations must be tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3), primarily serve economically disadvantaged populations, and operate within designated WNC counties, including the Qualla Boundary. Grants exclude support for budget deficits, debt, fundraising, ongoing programs, sectarian religious or partisan political purposes, public agencies, churches, individuals, or pre-grant expenses.
