About this program
The Foodways Section of the American Folklore Society offers the Sue Samuelson Award for the best student paper on food and foodways, featuring a $200 prize and publication in the journal Digest. The winner may also apply for up to $300 in travel support to attend the American Folklore Society conference if presenting a foodways paper. Undergraduate and graduate students may enter original, previously unpublished essays of 1,500–9,000 words based on fieldwork or research and using current folkloric approaches. Submissions must be submitted through the official application form by July 15 and include the applicant’s contact information.
