Summer Institute for the Study of East Central and Southeastern Europe

About this program

The American Council of Learned Societies (ACLS) and the Centre for Advanced Study Sofia (CAS) jointly sponsor the Summer Institute for the Study of East Central and Southeastern Europe (SISECSE), a two-week residency program in Blagoevgrad, Bulgaria. This fellowship supports scholars in the humanities or interpretive social sciences to conduct research, writing, and fieldwork focused on the region, including countries like Albania, Bulgaria, Poland, and Ukraine. Eligibility is limited to postdoctoral or advanced researchers whose work centers on East Central and Southeastern Europe, with a requirement to be in residence and participate fully in all program activities. The fellowship covers travel, accommodation, and per diem expenses, and applications must be submitted by October 30, 2024, through the ACLS Online Fellowship and Grant Administration (OFA) System.
