About this program

Huntington Medical Research Institutes (HMRI) offers the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) from June 15–August 7, 2026, an eight- to ten-week mentored, hands-on biomedical research program in cardiovascular disease and neuroscience. Participants work in HMRI labs on projects such as Alzheimer’s disease, neurovascular research, migraine, vaping/e‑cigarette cardiac toxicity, and cardiovascular signaling, receive safety training and professional development workshops, and present their research at the program’s conclusion. Eligibility requires full-time undergraduate status entering sophomore, junior, or senior year and the ability to participate in-person Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m., in Pasadena for the program dates; housing and transportation are not provided, and applicants need not be science majors but should have general biology and/or chemistry background and an interest in biomedical research.
