Systematic Review Award (ESCRS)

About this program

The European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS) offers the Systematic Review Award (SRA) to fund high-quality Cochrane-style systematic reviews in cataract, refractive, and corneal medicine and surgery, providing up to six awards of up to €10,000 each plus up to €3,000 toward Open Access fees. Applications are due 15 May 2026; funded reviews must be completed within one year and are anonymised for blinded peer review, with successful projects required to be submitted first to the Journal of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (and published Open Access if elsewhere). Eligible lead applicants must be ESCRS members who are ophthalmologists or researchers (MD and/or PhD) or ophthalmic nurses with research experience employed in a clinical or academic institution; only one application per lead is permitted. Applications from ESCRS governance members/their departments and from specified sanctioned regions (e.g., Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Syria, Venezuela, Crimea, Donetsk, Luhansk, Kherson, Zaporizhzhia) are ineligible.
