About this program
The Simons Foundation's Mathematics and Physical Sciences (MPS) division offers Targeted Grants in MPS to support high-risk, theoretically focused projects in mathematics, physics, and computer science with exceptional promise and scientific importance. Funding of up to $5,000,000 is available for up to five years, covering expenses such as salary, travel, equipment, and research costs. Eligibility is limited to established U.S. and foreign educational institutions and research centers, with principal investigators (PIs) and co-investigators required to hold a Ph.D. and a tenure-track or tenured position. Applications begin with a Letter of Intent (LOI) submitted via the Simons Award Manager (SAM), followed by a full proposal if invited.
