About this program

The Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations awards the Michael H. Hunt Prize for International History annually, providing $1,500 to recognize an outstanding first book offering fresh perspectives on international or global history since the mid-19th century. Eligible books must make substantial use of historical records in more than one language and contribute significantly to historical scholarship. Authors, publishers, or SHAFR members may nominate a 2026 publication by submitting a nomination letter and three physical copies or page proofs by February 1, 2027; edited volumes, general surveys, autobiographies, and non-historical social science works are excluded.
