The Moore Family Fellowship in the Making of the American Landscape

The Garden Club of America offers the Moore Family Fellowship in the Making of the American Landscape, a $5,000 award to support graduate-student research—including site visits and other resources—on significant man-made alterations to the American landscape since 1776. Applicants must be graduate students pursuing advanced degrees who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents; only one GCA scholarship/fellowship application is permitted annually and GCA cannot fund international applicants. Proposals, due at GCA Headquarters by February 1 preceding the period of study, should take an interdisciplinary approach (e.g., historic preservation, architectural history, landscape architecture, infrastructure history, civil or environmental engineering) and explicitly address the individuals involved (leaders, craftsmen, laborers). The fellow is expected to develop the thesis into a monograph within one year, and recipients are chosen by the GCA Scholarship Committee, which may consult additional experts.
