The Nicola Verdon Memorial Fund for Early Career Researchers

The British Agricultural History Society’s Nicola Verdon Memorial Fund provides small grants to help early career researchers in agricultural and rural history cover conference attendance (especially BAHS events) and research costs such as archive travel, accommodation, and photographic permits. Up to £1,500 is available annually in total, with a maximum award of £500 per applicant. Eligible applicants are normally PhD students or within five years of their PhD with limited access to funds; preference is given to projects on the history of women, children, or other marginalised rural groups, and priority to those who have not previously received the award. Apply by emailing secretary@bahs.org.uk at least eight weeks before funds are needed, including what the funding is for, an itemised cost breakdown, and a brief explanation of the research visit or conference value.
