The William Burr Prize in Nuclear History

The Society for Historians of American Foreign Relations and McGill-Queen’s University Press jointly offer the annual William Burr Prize in Nuclear History, awarding CAD $500 for the best PhD dissertation broadly focused on nuclear history. The winner also receives mentorship, a manuscript workshop, and support developing the dissertation for potential publication in MQUP’s Global Nuclear Histories series. Applicants may be of any nationality or institutional affiliation and may self-nominate or be nominated by a supervisor; dissertations must address nuclear history and have been submitted in final form between January 1 and December 31, 2026. An electronic dissertation copy must be submitted by February 1, 2027; non-English dissertations require an English translation of the introduction and at least one chapter for review.
