Transition to Independence Research Grants

About this program

The American Society of Transplantation’s Transition to Independence Research Grants support early-career academic investigators developing independent research programs in solid organ transplantation or related immunology. Awards typically provide $100,000–$150,000 over two years to help investigators transition to an NIH R-series or equivalent grant, supporting basic, clinical, or translational research directly related to transplantation. Applicants may not have served as principal investigator on a previous or current NIH grant for independent research. The program is not being offered for the 2025 cycle supporting research beginning January 1, 2026; in typical cycles, applications are accepted March through June 15.
