U.S. Local News Reporting Grants

About this program

The Pulitzer Center’s U.S. Local News Reporting Grants support freelance and staff journalists, as well as collaborative newsroom teams, producing in-depth enterprise, investigative, data, and accountability reporting on underreported issues affecting local U.S. communities. Grants are accepted on a rolling basis and may fund reporting-related expenses, with the Center also supporting educational outreach and public engagement to expand stories’ impact. Applicants must submit a project description of up to 250 words, a preliminary budget, and a compelling distribution plan; freelancers must publish through U.S. local news outlets. U.S. residents and international journalists are eligible, with proposals encouraged from applicants who reflect diverse and underrepresented communities.
