Visiting Faculty Position at MERL

About this program

Mitsubishi Electric Research Laboratories (MERL) invites university faculty to spend part or all of their sabbaticals at MERL to pursue self-directed, collaborative research projects; MERL provides office space, compute facilities, travel support and supplemental compensation when home support is insufficient, and can arrange special resources if proposed in advance. Visiting Faculty are expected to participate in lab life and to give two talks: one introducing their work or problem of interest and one summarizing outcomes from their visit. Applicants must be university faculty who identify and contact one or more MERL researchers to jointly prepare a proposal championed internally; applications (accepted up to two years in advance) must include a one‑page cover letter (dates, leave approval status, home support level, visit expectations), a research plan (≤2 pages) naming MERL collaborators, and a CV, submitted as a single PDF. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis with decisions made throughout the year.
